Texas Surf Conservancy Announces New Documentary Film Project
Exciting Collaboration with Sutapants Productions will Focus on Texas Oysters
Corpus Christi, TX — The Texas Surf Conservancy is launching a collaborative project with Sutapants Productions—a new documentary film entitled, “Rising Tide: The Future of Texas Oysters.” Our intention is to shine a spotlight on the burgeoning industry of Texas oyster mariculture, an innovative and sustainable answer to the growing demand for fresh seafood. The documentary film will highlight how this groundbreaking practice benefits all of Texas—the environment, coastal communities, chefs, restaurants and seafood lovers alike, presenting oyster farming as a win-win solution for everyone.
“The story of the Texas oyster is one that needs to be told,” shared Brad Lomax, President & Chair of the Texas Surf Conservancy, a nonprofit marine conservation organization. “From native populations to today, oysters have been a staple of local diets and remain a keystone species to coastal communities. We are honored to be a part of this project and look forward to bringing this real and important Texas tale to life.”
The organization will be hosting two local “friendraisers” or pitch parties to launch the initiative. Both “Rising Tide” events are free and will feature remarks from the film’s executive producer and director, refreshments, and farmed Texas oysters.
The Corpus Christi event will be held on Thursday, October 16 at the Ada Wilson House on Ocean Drive and the Rockport event will be held the following week on Thursday, October 23 at the Rockport Conference Center. The mission of the Texas Surf Conservancy is to work collaboratively across disciplines and industries to preserve the health of marine habitats and promote oyster mariculture along the Gulf Coast of Texas.
