Did you know that oysters can filter up to 50 gallons of water every day?
Are you aware that 80% of the world’s oyster reefs have been destroyed?
The Texas Surf Conservancy believes that change will come when coastal communities become aware of the devastating effects of unsustainable fishing practices and destructive environmental policies. Our mission is to preserve marine habitats and promote oyster mariculture in Texas—and we take that mission to heart!
The Texas Surf Conservancy strives to educate the community by hosting events and workshops, as well as offering classroom instruction for students on oyster mariculture. We have recently developed an educational program called “Science of Oysters” that targets elementary students—“Oyster Adventures” for kindergarten through second grade and “Oyster Explorers” for third through fifth grades.
We host the annual Texas Oyster Round Up that highlights guest speakers, panel discussions, and offers a tasting room filled with farmed Texas oysters to sample.
We also benefit from the proceeds of Surftoberfest, an annual community event held in downtown Corpus Christi by our friends at WaterStreet Restaurants.
